After an acclaimed first season, CRIMINAL returned with BAFTA-nominated performances from Kunal Nayyar and Sophie Okonedo, alongside guest stars Kit Harington and Sharon Horgan and the regular cast that includes Katherine Kelly, Lee Ingleby and Rochenda Sandall. CRIMINAL’s creators and executive producers are writer George Kay (Killing EveThe Hour) and director Jim Field Smith (Endeavour, The Wrong Mans).

A police procedural with a unique premise, CRIMINAL takes place exclusively within the confines of a police interview suite. This stripped down, cat-and-mouse drama focuses on the intense mental conflict between the police detectives and the suspect in question.

The debut season comprised of 12 unique stories set in 4 different countries: France, Spain, Germany and the UK. These episodes were being made in local language, written and directed by talent from their respective countries. All episodes were shot on the same purpose-built set at the Ciudad de la Tele studios in Madrid. The show launched on Netflix in September 20th, 2019, to much critical acclaim including an International Emmy nomination for Best Original Drama. The UK show returned for a second season, with the set relocated to Shepperton Studios, where it was filmed in early 2020.

The international guest stars have included David Tennant, Kit Harington, Sophie Okonedo, Kunal Nayyar, Hayley Atwell, Emma Suarez, Carmen Machi, Nathalie Baye and Nina Hoss.
