EPISODES returning to Showtime this July

This winter I took on the gauntlet of directing the entire second season (9 episodes) of transatlantic comedy EPISODES, starring Golden Globe winner Matt LeBlanc, and my fellow countryfolk Stephen Mangan and Tamsin Greig. It’s a fantastic show with a superb cast, and I hope I’ve done it justice in its second outing, having taken the baton from James Griffiths who did a lovely job directing the first season.
Showtime have just announced that the show will take a bow in the US on Sunday, July 1 at 1030pm. The only intel I have on the BBC dates is that we are hoping it will come out before the Olympics, so… well… soon! Watch this space.

Butter spreads to Telluride
More exciting developments to share with you, now the news is finally out of the bag: BUTTER will be screening this weekend at the wonderful 38th Telluride Film Festival in Colorado.
As if that didn’t send enough adrenaline coursing through my veins, I’m writing this post at the airport as I am about to depart from Los Angeles with the hot-off-the-press digital print of the film which I am personally delivering to Telluride. So as you can see we’re cutting it a little fine, but that just makes it all the more exciting to be showing something to audiences that is truly box-fresh.
We’re very proud to have been invited to Telluride. It’s going to be the perfect place to debut this film before our big Gala screening in Toronto later this month. If you’re coming to Telluride, or Toronto, I will be introducing the movie and taking part in various Q&As, so be sure to come and say hello.

BUTTER headed to Toronto
Really exciting news: my film BUTTER will have its World Premiere at the 36th Toronto International Film Festival 2011.
Here’s the official listing:
Butter, World Premiere (dir. Jim Field Smith) Set in the highly competitive world of championship butter carving, Butter blends social commentary, outrageous comedy and heartfelt drama in telling the story of the ambitious Laura Pickler (Jennifer Garner), the self-anointed First Lady of Butter Carving. Refusing to accept that her husband (Ty Burrell) wants to step down after his 15-year run as the “Iowa State Butter Carving Champion,” and therefore end the Pickler family’s reign in the spotlight, Laura takes a stab at the title herself. But her bid for glory is complicated when two unlikely contestants enter the race – one, her husband’s hard-living mistress (Olivia Wilde), and the other a 10-year-old foster child named Destiny (Yara Shahidi). Enlisting the help of her high school sweetheart, Boyd (Hugh Jackman), Laura will stop at nothing to be crowned champion, even if it means resorting to sabotage. Part political satire, part Capra-esque comedy, Butter is a story about what it means to win at all costs and against all odds.
There’s an excellent line-up at Toronto this year, it’s always a great festival, and we are honoured that they chose our film for one of their Gala Screenings. More information to follow. You can find out more on the official TIFF 2011 website.
Update: here’s an article in Variety about the line-up.
